I keep missing Fajr because of my work schedule. What can I do?
First, take heart: the fact that this troubles you is itself a sign of faith. The five daily prayers are the pillar of our religion, and Fajr — prayed while the world sleeps — carries a special weight precisely because it is hard.
Then, treat the causes practically. Sleep as soon after Isha as your life allows, place your alarm beyond arm’s reach, and ask Allah the night before for the gift of waking. If, despite sincere effort, sleep overcomes you, pray Fajr the moment you wake: the Prophet ﷺ taught that whoever sleeps through a prayer or forgets it should pray it when he remembers it — that prayer counts as its making-up, and it is not a sin recorded against the one who truly tried.
If your shifts regularly collide with Fajr’s time, speak to your employer early and calmly; in many countries a short, reasonable adjustment for prayer is a protected right. What matters is the pattern of your heart: striving as the rule, and the rare miss met with immediate prayer — not despair, and not indifference.
“Whoever sleeps through a prayer or forgets it, let him pray it when he remembers it.” (Reported by al-Bukhari and Muslim)
