Islamic Story for Kids About Kindness to Animals: The Thirsty Cat
Being kind to animals means noticing when they need help and caring for them gently. Even a small act, like giving water to a thirsty cat, can show a soft and thankful heart.
One warm afternoon, Sami was helping his mother water the mint pots outside their home. As he carried the little watering can, he heard a quiet sound near the garden wall: mew... mew...
A small grey cat was sitting in the shade. Its tongue peeked out, and it looked at the drops falling from Sami's watering can. Sami knelt down slowly so he would not frighten it. “You must be thirsty,” he whispered.
Sami found a clean, shallow bowl and filled it with fresh water. He placed it a little way from the cat, then stepped back. The cat sniffed the bowl, took one sip, and then drank and drank. Its tail curled peacefully around its paws.
Sami wanted to pick the cat up, but his mother reminded him to be gentle with animals he did not know. So he sat nearby without chasing or touching it. When the cat had finished, it blinked at Sami and padded away through the garden gate.
The next morning, Sami put fresh water in the same shady place. “Kindness should not happen only once,” he said. His mother smiled. Together they made sure the bowl was clean and full on every hot day.
Lesson for today: Be gentle with animals, notice what they need, and help them in a safe and caring way.
